In The Middle of the Night- Robert Cormier

For as long as he can remember, Denny Colbert hasn't been allowed to answer the phone. Sometimes it will ring twelve, thirteen times in a row. Sometimes it will ring in the middle of the night. No matter how many times the Colberts' move, the phone calls and letters find them. These phone calls always happen at the same time every year- Halloween.

When Denny's dad was sixteen, he was involved in an accident at a theater that killed twenty-two children. One of the children hasn't forgotten. This year it's worse- it's the 25th anniversary of the accident and everything is getting drudged up again. One day Denny gets sick of ignoring the ringing phone and he picks it up. This time, the person on the other end is looking for him.

***** stars!

This is my favorite so far! It was really suspenseful and creepy. I read it in one day, dying to know what happened at the end. I wasn't disappointed!
