I Was a Non-Blonde Cheerleader by Kieran Scott

What a fun summer read! This book isn't brand spankin' new - 2005 - but it's still fabulously fun! Think Bring It On, Mean Girls, and Sisterhood of the Travelin' Pants.

I read this book because I wanted a story where the girls didn't backstab each other or weren't "mean" to each other. And while it starts out that way, it doesn't end that way, which is the important thing. It's the story of sophomore Annisa Gobrowski, who moves from New Jersey to Florida and has to make it in a new school (filled with ALL blondes!). Naturally, Annisa is treated as an outsider at first, but everyone soon warms up to her. Annisa is a fun character - smart, sassy, and self-confident. There aren't many Annisas in teen literature today!

Pick this up for some light, entertaining summer reading (not to mention you'll be able to mark off that pesky "Takes Place in NJ" square on your bingo cards!).

P.S. Fun tidbit - the jacket cover says the author lives in Ridgewood! You never know if/when Kieran Scott could come into your library!!!

I read this book for my summer reading program! I thought it was a gread read for anyone, especially cheerleaders. It shows that you shouldn't let little things, such as hair color, get in the way of fitting in. It also shows that you should never give up on something that means a lot to you. I loved this book so much that I went out and bought the next two books in the trilogy! I also recommend the other two books, Brunettes Strike Back and A Non-Blonde Cheerleader In Love. A definite must-read!!!!
