Harmless by Dana Reinhardt

When I saw this new title from Dana Reinhardt, I had to read it immediately. She also wrote A Brief Chapter in My Impossible Life, which was one of my favorite books of 2006.

In Harmless, three friends tell a lie that snowballs into something much bigger than they planned. Anna and Emma begin their friendship with Mariah as a result of a school project. Mariah is the type of girl that everyone envies- she's a transfer from another school who is pretty, confident, and sort of scandalous. They forge a friendship and Mariah introduces them to her world of boys, booze, and late nights.
On one of these late nights, the girls miss their curfew by a long shot and concoct a plan to keep them out of trouble. The result of this lie is way more than they bargained for. As the lie grows, it gets harder and harder to take back.
**** stars- suspenseful as well as a really fun read.
